The Dachshund is a small dog breed originating from Germany, though there are people who say that they've also had ancestry in ancient Egypt. These small hounds are characterized by their long bodies and short legs, and they come in a variety of coat colors and coat lengths. Its name in German means "badger hound", referring to how dachshunds in Germany were originally used for badger hunting. They're also great diggers, which has helped them in the past with flushing out badgers from their sets; many pet dachshunds share that trait when they burrow under blankets. While they may be small, they make up for that with a stubborn and spunky attitude, as well as being an intelligent breed in need of brain stimulation.
