Operation Breaking Dawn

The 2022, direct defensive and preemptive-defensive[1][2][3] IDF operation against terror by Iran[1] linked Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ)

As these operations are:

Terrorists target all Israelis, IDF targets terrorists and their infrastructures, while making efforts not to hit those non involved, yet, the Arab-Islamist side has the vested interest to see about civilian deaths, in order to gather media sympathy and boost support in the Islamic world.

Aug 1, 2022

On Aug 1 2022, after alarming information of threat, IDF arrested in Jenin, Bassam al-Saadi a senior PIJ, the terrorist leader in Judea Samaria.[4] He recently acted to restore the Islamic Jihad activity and stood behind a significant military force building in Samaria in general and Jenin in particular.[5] At the action, terrorists shot at the IDF and one "Palestinian" was killed.

Aug 4, 2022

A senior official in the PIJ terrorist organization in the Gaza Strip sent a threatening message to Israel, saying: "The arrest of Bassem al-Saadi is a crossing of a red line."[6]

Aug 5, 2022

Following PIJ's threat[1] to attack Israelis, in response, the IDF eliminated a PIJ top commander on Aug 5, 2022,[1][7][3] (while the terrorist was using civilians) Jabari was said to be involved in planning significant attacks against Israel, including with the use of anti-tank missiles.

Explained:[8]
The strike on Islamic Jihad commander Tayseer al-Jabari, who 'planned numerous deadly attacks against Israel,' represented a 'targeted preventive action to eliminate a concrete threat.'

Taiseer al-Jabari, replaced Bahaa Abu el-Atta who was eliminated in 2019,[1][9] on a one rare occasion when, for some reason, he did not surround himself by civilians, as he always did.[10]

The military wing of the Islamic Jihad in Judea-Samaria announced a general recruitment for "harm to Israeli targets."[11]

The PIJ launched a barrage of rockets at residents in Israel in the south and in the center. Dozens[12] and dozens, from civilians areas, using them as shields.[13][14] Most were intercepted by the Iron Dome. The IDF then attacked PIJ weapon facilities.[15] The Op. was named 'Breaking Dawn.'[16][17] The constant rocket attack forced many Israelis to go into shelters.

The US strongly backed[18] Israel, that it has the right to defend itself. Israeli ambassador slammed the (not unexpected) UN emissary who expressed "concern" when the Jihadi chief was eliminated. And asked if he is "concerned" too about the killing of Al Qaeda'a Al-Zawahiri.[19]

(PBS News Hour just had to insert the word "occupied" in reporting on eliminating al-Jabari, even if one accepts this term for territories, as if for totalitarian Islamists Tel Aviv or Judeas and Samaria makes any difference or as if the totalitarian Jihadists are about supposed "freedom."[20])

Aug 6, 2022

IDF forces launched an arrest operation against the leaders of the Islamic Jihad movement in the Jenin County.[21]

After over 350 rockets[22] within two days by PIJ --and some injured in Israel-- launching from among civilians, using them[23] and uttering bravado,[24] the IDF eliminated another PIJ major terrorist figure Abu Tarek al-Madlal.[25][26] As was a Hamas operative, Nour Zuidi earlier in Beit Hanoun.[27]

As a routine, action came after efforts by the IDF to minimize collateral damage notifying the people ahead of time - Roof Knocking.[28]

Then, another big shot, Khaled Mansour, Jabari's counterpart was eliminated too.[29][30]

Victim in Israel from the Jihadi terror as of Aug 6, 2022:[31]
21 People were injured across the country, including: 2 slightly injured from shrapnel, 13 slightly injured who were injured while running to the protected area and 6 who suffered an anxiety attack.

Postponing, repeatedly, elimination of Khaled Mansour because children were in the area

During the elimination of Khaled Mansour pn Aug 6 at night, children were identified in the area of the attack. It was therefore postponed several times. Only later, when the children were not present in the area, the attack was successfully carried out and the "Palestinian" Islamic Jihad official was foiled.[32][33]

Warning Gazan to evacuate to avoid hitting those not involved

Among dozens of conversations by Israel to Gaza residents to eascuate, make sure site is empty, ahead of strike, one was publicized.[34][35][36]

IDF stopped attack -last minute- on Jihad post recognizing a girl at the position

Just before the attack: the tank crew recognized a girl at the jihad position - and stopped the fire.[37]

Palestinian Jihad kills Gaza children

A rocket of Islamic jihad caused the death of children in the Gaza Strip, Jabalia.[38][39] [40] In addition, information received even among many Palestinian civilians that affirms the fact that the injury to children in Jabaliya was caused by a failed rocket of Islamic Jihad.[41][42][43][44][45]

Shockingly: Anti-Israel AP confirmed that Gazan children were killed by PIJ rockets.[46]

Ungrateful racist[47][48][49][50][51][52] race baiter,[53] physically violent,[54][55] proven liar,[56] genocidal-jihad agitator,[57] cruel hater,[58] coming up with/disseminating a bloodlibel,[59] calling for transfer of Jews out of Israel, [60] pro-jihad Shahidism,[61] Arab-Islamic MK, known supporters of terror[47] Ahmad Tibi rushed to tweet graphic pics (a favorite repeated "Palestinian" vicious inciting method of spreading around blooded photos of kids) and blaming Israel, despite proof it was from a failed Palestinian attack.[62][63] Only after already slammed, he deleted the purposely lying tweet.[64] He then stopped talking about it, as even anti Israel media pointed to Palestinian fault. Proving his "honest concern" about Palestinian-Arab lives - when he can't use it for his hateful propaganda.

Aug 7, 2022

Relentless rocket launching by PIJ still on. Targeting Jerusalem too.[65]

Around 15:25 local time there was:[66] A heavy barrage was sent to all parts of the country, for the first time alarms were activated in Be'er Sheva. [11]

First threat from the other Islamist terror org. Hamas about "pitching in."[67]

Some Arab-Muslims in Jaffa joyfully shouted 'Allah akbar' during the alarms.[68][69] (It reminded the May/2021 Guardian of the Walls, as racist Islamic masses targeted Jews). Masses of Muslims at a wedding in Umm al-Fahm called on the Jihadists to attack.[70]

The IDF continues its surgical operation, including taking out rocket launchers in Gaza.[71] It also destroyed a terror-tunnel.[72]

IDF halts an operation seeing a non-involved Gazan nearby weaponry

During an operation on a naval ammunition warehouse in a terrorist's house, a non-involved person in the attack range was identified. Following the identification, the plane stopped. The attack was carried out later on when there was no threat of harm to civilians in the area.[73][74]

Palestinian Jihad kills, wounds more in Gaza

Another launching of Jihad hit a house in Jabaliya - apparently killing a woman and wounding "Palestinians." The 2nd time in 24 hrs - killing their own.[75][76]

Palestinian-propaganda Mayadeen TV captures PIJ rocket misfire live, averts camera

Lebanese Mayadeen TV (its staff is Palestinian-Syrian and who stated that the "Palestinian" cause is the channel's centerpiece[78]), captures Islamic Jihad rocket misfire live, averts camera. It caught a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket misfiring and coming down in a Gaza neighborhood. The correspondent can be heard telling the cameraman to avert the camera.[79]

Terrorists targeting gas rig[edit]

The unsuccessful launch of unmanned aircraft from Gaza toward a gas rig prompted Israel to increase defensive measures.[80]

Accomplishment & summary[edit]

The IDF announced on Aug 6, that:[81] 'All senior Islamic Jihad officials in Gaza eliminated.'

As Islamic Jihad hit hard, talks of ending the operation began on Aug 7.[82]

As summed up by Sderot mayor:[83] "They told Jihad if you don't fold we will fold you - and they folded."

Summary of the "Dawn" operation:[84]

97% success for the Iron Dome, 170 targets of the jihad were attacked, about 1000 launches towards Israel, of which about 100 fell in the territory of the Gaza Strip. According to the data in the hands of the IDF, which are not certain, 35 Palestinians were killed - of which 11 were not involved. Another 15 non-involved deaths resulted from failed shots by the Palestinians.

Ceasefire[edit]

Minutes after announcement of ceasecfure to get into effect on 8 Aug 2022 at 11:30pm local time, mediated by Egypt, the Islamists still launched its latest.[85]

Counterterrorism ops ongoing despite ceasefire.[86]

On Aug 11, 2022: [5]
In the shadow of the tense security situation at the beginning of the week until the ceasefire agreement, the military court in Ofer extended the detention of Bassam al-Saadi by 6 more days - contrary to the jihad's demand.

Israel treats Gaza children harmed by "Palestinian" rocket launchers[edit]

4 Gazan children who were injured by "Palestinian" Islamic Jihad failed launches were brought to humane Israel for treatment.[87]

Media[edit]

Hamas' "orders" to media[edit]

Experiencing first hand being exposed of tactics of human shields as well as failed launching that have both caused casualties among their people, Hamas first issued sweeping restrictions on foreign journalists working in the Gaza Strip, a ban on coverage about PIJ rockets falling short in Gaza and causing injuries and deaths, as well as a general rule requiring that Jerusalem be blamed for the latest escalation. Then it withdrew it.[88]

Bias[edit]

After watchdog's protest, the AP corrected "Week in Pictures" feature which misidentified outgoing Islamic Jihad rockets launched from Gaza towards Israel as "Israeli airstrikes."[89]

The Washington Post's coverage of Operation Breaking Dawn showed curious pattern of one-sided omissions and misrepresentations.[90]

ABC correspondents Ines de la Cuetara and Reena Roy falsely charge that Israeli airstrikes were responsible for all of the Gaza casualties earlier this month, ignoring that errant Islamic Jihad rockets were the culprit in a significant number of cases. [91]

PBS NewsHour based its headline on "Palestinian" source as if factual, on Aug 5, 2022.[92] Despite long record of Pallywood and exaggerated numbers over the years, the PBS states in its title a 'Palestinian' source's statement "as a matter of fact."

Internationally, chief fact twisting in reporting seemed to be Al Jazeera which blamed Israel for the death of children in Jabaliya, without mentioning that it was the result of an errant Islamic Jihad rocket. Even days after this reporting Al Jazeera did not issue an apology. The BBC and CNN were desperate to stress that its "Israel claim", but it does not stress 'its "Palestinian" claim' when routinely reporting on deaths, numbers in Gaza.[93]

NYT's genocidal Hitlerist "Palestinian" contributor[edit]

One of the contributors to NYT[94] on the events was "Palestinian" Arab Nazi Fady Hanona who called for 'killing,' 'burning' Jews 'like what Hitler did.'[95][96]

UN - Sarah Muscroft[edit]

UN senior official official who dared to criticize Palestinian Islamic Jihad for its indiscriminate rocket attacks which triggers IDF response, lost job after BDS and pro Jihad "Palestinian" pressure.[97] From reaction to UN conduct: "Every time I think the UN and its people have hit rock bottom, they prove that you can go lower. Shocking!."[98]

Islamic Republic of Iran's elaborated bloody strategy/game[edit]

On the same day of Aug 6, 2022, Islamic Jihad leader meets with IRGC leader in Tehran.[99]

As pulling the strings, Iran tried to use it to pressure the US for its preferred deal on nukes.[100]

It comes as in June-Aug, Iranian agents, repeatedly, have been attempting to harm innocent Israelis in Turkey.[101][102][103] In addition, the detainment of the Venezuelan cargo plane in Argentina in June 2022,[104] could be linked to attempts by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to attack Israelis abroad.[105]

Related[edit]

On Aug 23, 2022, an explosion occurred in Gaza killing a child. The Arabs tried to hide the cause of the explosion and some even claimed that it was an assassination attributed to Israel, but the IDF spokesman for foreign media revealed in a tweet on Twitter that it was weapons that were stored insecurely in a terrorist's house, exploded and resulted in the death of a child and other casualties. Clarifying:[106]
Another tragedy in the Gaza Strip today.

Weapons stored unsafely in the house of a member of a Palestinian terrorist group exploded and killed a young child in the vicinity.

These are the sad consequences of militarizing civilian areas for terrorist activity.

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 Israel Targets Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) Commander in Gaza, FDD, Aug 5, 2022.

Latest Developments:  An Israeli strike has killed Taysir al-Jabari, the Gaza commander of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), which the U.S. Department of State designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) in 1997. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Jabari "was responsible for multiple terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians." PIJ had threatened to attack Israeli targets after the arrest earlier this week of senior PIJ figure Bassam al-Saadi. Israel’s internal security service, Shabak, said Saadi was the PIJ leader in the West Bank and was behind the "building of a significant military force." Shabak added that Saadi "was a significant factor in the radicalization of the organization’s operatives in the field."

PIJ Profile:  Founded in 1981, PIJ is the second-largest militant group in Gaza after Hamas. In the 1990s and again during the Second Intifada from 2000 to 2005, PIJ targeted Israeli civilians with suicide bombings, including the Netanya mall bombing in December 2005, which killed five Israelis and wounded fifty.

Dependent on Iran:  PIJ is the Palestinian militant group closest to Iran, on which it depends for financial and military support. Thanks to Iran, PIJ in Gaza has acquired military-grade weapons that range from small arms to man-portable air-defense systems (MANPADS), rockets, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), and explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). PIJ fighters have also trained inside Iran.

Remotely Led:  PIJ has a local leadership structure in Gaza, although its senior leaders reside in Syria, Lebanon, and other countries in the region. Unlike Hamas, PIJ does not compete in elections, employ civilian front organizations, or govern any part of Gaza. When weighing the risks of attacking Israel, it therefore has less need to consider the impact of a potential military response. Ziyad al-Nakhlaheh, Khaled al-Batsh, Hader Adnan, and Muhammed al-Hindi are among PIJ’s most visible leaders and spokesmen.

Independent from Hamas:  Despite PIJ's cooperation with Hamas, which also has close ties to Iran, PIJ has launched attacks on Israel at times when Hamas would have preferred not to escalate. These attacks seek to demonstrate that PIJ is the most militant organization in Gaza and can act independently.

History of Clashes with IDF:  In November 2019, an IDF strike killed Jabari’s predecessor, Bahaa Abu al-Atta, resulting in several days of clashes between PIJ and the IDF. In February 2020, the IDF conducted strikes against PIJ militant infrastructure in both the Gaza Strip and Syria. There has been a sharp increase in PIJ casualties over the last year and half, with numerous militants killed during engagements with Israeli personnel during counter-terrorism operations. Coupled with the establishment of PIJ fighting units, or "katibat," in several West Bank cities, the increase in violence suggests an organized PIJ effort to expand its military capabilities in the West Bank.

Expert Analysis from FDD’s Joe Truzman: "Israel likely felt an attack by Palestinian Islamic Jihad was imminent and reacted first. The history of conflict with the PIJ suggests a high likelihood of an armed response in the coming days by PIJ and the other militant groups that belong to Palestinian Joint Operations Room, including Hamas."

In southern Israel - which was targeted with hundreds of rockets by Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) militants - people have left their air raid shelters to go to their offices, shopping centres and parks.

As the ceasefire brokered by Egypt appears to be sticking, Israelis and Palestinians give starkly different views on what just happened and why.

Israel says that it launched its military operation, codenamed Breaking Dawn, in response to a direct and immediate threat from PIJ militants...

Tensions had risen sharply since Israel's arrest of Bassem Saadi, said to be the top PIJ figure in the occupied West Bank, last week.

Israeli officials are giving few details, but say they had "precise, detailed intelligence" that the Iran-backed militant group - which has its stronghold in Gaza - was planning to attack military or civilian targets nearby with sniper or anti-tank fire.

Still, it was unusual for Israel to make a pre-emptive strike on the Palestinian territory.

But from an Israeli perspective, the risk paid off. This was one of its most successful rounds of fighting with militants there.

PIJ lost its two most senior commanders on the ground, Tayseer Jaabari and Khaled Mansour, as well as sites used to manufacture and store missiles, command headquarters and outposts. The IDF says it hit 170 PIJ targets.

A senior Israeli official assesses that it has dealt "a very serious blow" to PIJ and "taken them back decades".

Claims by the PIJ leader, Ziad Nakhalah, who is visiting Iran, that this was "a victory" are far less convincing.

Militants did muster a show of strength, firing some 1,100 rockets (according to Israeli figures) from their ample arsenal at Israel and setting off warning sirens in Tel Aviv and even Jerusalem.

But the Iron Dome defence system prevented them from any significant military achievements and helped stop any deaths of Israelis, although dozens suffered minor injuries.

    Self-inflicted casualties?

A key point in the latest conflict is that Hamas, the more powerful Islamist militant group that governs Gaza, decided to stay out of the fray, just as it did in 2019 when Israeli fire focused on Islamic Jihad. This limited the escalation...

The peak of that was on Saturday night, when five people - including four children - were killed in the Jabalia refugees camp in northern Gaza.

Pictures of the bodies, shared widely on social media, inflamed Palestinian public opinion.

However, Israel said that it could prove - with video evidence - that the explosion was not caused by an Israeli air strike, but by a misfired Palestinian rocket.

Palestinian witnesses do report seeing faulty PIJ launches in this conflict.

The IDF spokesman has briefed journalists that one-fifth of the rockets PIJ fired ultimately landed and exploded inside the Gaza Strip...

Initial talks mediated by Egypt were for a pause in the fighting to bring in emergency fuel. However, they soon turned into negotiations for a full ceasefire.

With calm restored, the first lorries carrying diesel, aid and medicines have now rolled into Gaza through the Kerem Shalom crossing. The sole power station in the Strip is running again.

Israeli communities close to Gaza also live under constant fear...

"This time was very different - it was very planned, very limited goals, very short," said Brouria Carni Hadass from Kerem Shalom kibbutz, an Israeli town close to the border with Gaza. She said she was glad the fighting was over but added: "We'll probably go through it again and again."

How Israel’s counterinsurgency operation left Islamic Jihad battered and bloodied.

The three-day Gaza border clash between Israel and Islamic Jihad has come to an end with an Egyptian brokered ceasefire going into effect late Sunday evening. Objectively, Israel’s Breaking Dawn counterinsurgency operation was a resounding success, with Israel achieving all its objectives and Islamic Jihad being left battered and bloodied. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad is an Iranian proxy group with no political echelon. It is designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the United States and most of the free world. Unlike Hamas, which is also an Iranian proxy and a terrorist organization, Islamic Jihad has no community roots and does not partake in any Palestinian political processes. The relationship between Hamas and Islamic Jihad is part symbiotic and part adversarial. Hamas refrained from firing rockets at Israel in this round and Israel reciprocated in kind. Islamic Jihad’s main military presence is in Gaza, but the group also maintains cells in Judea & Samaria (also referred to as the West Bank). Last week, Israel succeeded in nabbing Islamic Jihad’s West Bank chieftain, Bassem Saadi, and his deputy, Ashraf al-Jada, in a daring joint operation carried out by the Shin Bet, the Israel Defense Forces and the Border Police. Following their seizure, Israel obtained concrete evidence of a plan by Islamic Jihad’s Gaza branch to execute an anti-tank missile strike at Israeli civilian traffic along Gaza’s periphery. Israel responded by closing roads near Gaza, but such a state could not be maintained indefinitely as it would result in severe disruption to normal day-to-day living. That untenable situation left Israel with no option but to launch a preemptive strike to take out Islamic Jihad’s Gaza leadership. Acting on precise intelligence, Israel struck an apartment where Islamic Jihad’s head of northern operations, Tayseer al-Jabari, and his cohorts were congregating. Jabari and his commanders were instantly neutralized in that strike. Jabari was a ticking time bomb and immediate action was necessary to thwart a mega attack. Islamic Jihad responded with indiscriminate rocket fire at Israeli civilian targets. According to the IDF, during the three-day clash, Islamic Jihad fired approximately 1,100 rockets, 200 of which landed within Gaza. Of the remaining 990 rockets, 380 were intercepted by the Iron Dome reflecting a 95% success rate. The remainder landed either in the sea or other non-critical areas. Iron Dome’s radars and integrated computer systems are designed to calculate the rocket’s trajectory and determine if the rocket will land in critical areas. If the system calculates that it will land in an open space, there’s no launch. There has been some speculation that Israel may have also deployed its newest wonder weapon, Iron Beam, an anti-rocket laser system but this rumor has not been confirmed and the IDF is not commenting. In response to Islamic Jihad’s rocket bombardment, Israel hit back with devastating precision, targeting arms caches, attack tunnels, rocket launching sites, military outposts and senior Islamic Jihad commanders. In one such retaliatory strike, Israel killed Islamic Jihad’s top commander for southern Gaza, Khaled Mansour. With the deaths of Mansour, al-Jabari and their deputies, Israel decapitated Islamic Jihad’s leadership. Islamic Jihad admitted to the loss of 12 operatives, but the death toll may be higher given the propensity of these Palestinian terror groups to obfuscate their losses. The Palestinian health ministry, which is run by Hamas, claimed that a total of 35 Gazans were killed of whom 26 were civilians. But Israel was able to determine that 15 of those civilians were killed by misfired or errant Islamic Jihad rockets that fell short. Included in that figure were at least four children killed by an Islamic Jihad rocket that landed in the Jabalya refugee camp. Hamas, Islamic Jihad and their media supports, including the Qatari propaganda outlet al-Jazeera, tried to pin the blame for their deaths on Israel but Israel was able to get ahead of the story and presented irrefutable videographic evidence demonstrating that it was in fact, a terrorist rocket that caused the mayhem. Aside from minor injuries, there were no Israeli casualties attesting to the effectiveness of Israel’s defensive capabilities and its offensive operations. Property damage was also minimal. Egypt played a constructive role in brokering a ceasefire and the general Arab response, post-Abraham Accords, was muted, signaling a positive realignment of priorities and new political realities. There was a time when any Israeli action against terror groups would produce an instant robotic-like response from the Arab world, full of shrill and anti-Israel rhetoric, but no more. In sum, Israel accomplished all of its goals and more during Operation Breaking Dawn, while Islamic Jihad was left to lick its wounds.

The decision on the targeted elimination of Baha' Abu al-Ata ("there was no choice"), and the precise hit ("excellent intelligence capability") - The steps that led to the escalation.

Abu al-Ata was in the IDF's crosshairs for a long time. The Northern Gaza Brigade, which was responsible for most of the recent attacks, including the bombardment of the Gaza Strip about two weeks ago, the shooting during Netanyahu's speech at the political event in Ashdod and the shooting on Memorial Day. The IDF announced this morning that in recent months they tried in every way to stop him from his hostile activities. "We tried in every possible way," they clarified. Abu al-Ata, for his part, made sure to use human shields, including children, in order to prevent his elimination. Last week, it was exceptionally approved to carry out the targeted elimination. With the exception of the assassination of a senior Hamas official in charge of finances, which was carried out last May, there have been no targeted assassinations in recent years. At the initiative of Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and in full coordination with the General Security Service, the operation was approved in an orderly procedure in the cabinet about a week ago, after which the IDF waited for the appropriate opportunity, with the understanding that Abu Elata planned in the coming days to fire rockets into the surrounding area, launch drones and sniper fire. "The Chief of Staff pushed for the implementation of the operation because he felt there was no other choice," emphasized the IDF spokesman. He also added that: "We understand that Baa was an unbridled factor who acted most of the times on his own accord in a way that was contrary to regional interests."

At 4:00 the long-awaited opportunity arrived.

Abu al-Ata was in his home, unusually without a human shield except for his wife and the IDF jets set off. "The operation was very surgical," the IDF said after the incident. A precision missile hit the room where the senior jihadist was staying and caused it to collapse. "We didn't collapse the entire house, but the room he was in,"Silberman said of the surgical operation and revealed a touch of the IDF's operational technological capability. "We took advantage of an opportunity to hit him with minimal casualties," he said. Excellent of both bodies. Very close coordination with the Shin Bet and that's what led us to hit the specific room."

Misfired rockets may have killed over a dozen in Gaza battle, The Associated Press, August 8, 2022.

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Close to one-third of the Palestinians who died in the latest outbreak of violence between Israel and Gaza militants may have been killed by errant rockets fired by the Palestinian side, according to an Israeli military assessment that appears consistent with independent reporting by The Associated Press. The Israeli military said 47 Palestinians were killed in the weekend of fighting — at least 14 of them by Islamic Jihad-fired rockets that fell short. No one in Gaza with direct knowledge of the explosions in question was willing to speak about them publicly. But live TV footage showed militant rockets falling short in densely packed residential neighborhoods. And AP visits to the sites of two explosions that killed a total of 12 people lent support to suspicions they were caused by rockets that went off course. Israel is claiming victory in the weekend clash, in part because it killed two senior Islamic Jihad commanders and because no Israelis were killed or seriously wounded. If it turns out that Islamic Jihad harmed some of those it claims to protect, it would make for an even more humiliating outcome for the militant group and its main sponsor, Iran...

Video footage of the aftermath circulated online, showing what appeared to be a rocket casing sticking out of the ground on a narrow, busy street. When the AP visited the site on Monday, the casing was gone and the hole had been filled in with dirt. Palestinians are usually keen to display evidence of Israeli airstrikes to international media.

Notice an interesting phenomena, all these Israeli Arab members of Knesset (who are equal citizens, legally entitled to be elected to Israel's parliament - unlike in Judenrein Palestine) are attacking Israeli society and its institutions... rather than looking closer to home for the answers.

No, it's not the vicious mass murder of Jews in malls, cafes and on buses by Arab terrorists... No, it's not the apartheid-style (or is that Nazi-style?) demand for a Judenrein Gaza, a Judenrein Palestine, even by so-called moderates like Mahmoud Abbas. No, it's not the consistent polls for the last five years showing 50-80% "Palestinian" support for suicide bombings, or the fact that Hamas garnered 58% of the vote in the recent elections in the Palestinian Authority. No, it's not the recent announcements by Hamas leaders of their intention to continue what they euphemistically call the "resistance", better called genocidal attacks against Jews in Israel.

No, It's not the public support Israeli Arabs, both leaders and led, both educated and not, have voiced for the Hamas victory in the PA. No, it's not the growing active participation of Israeli Arabs in terrorism against Israeli Jews. No, it's not their own admission of disloyalty toward the State of Israel. No, it's not their own call for apartheid-style segregation, and Arab supremacist rights in Israel itself. No, it's not any of the above reasons that many Jews have negative feelings toward Arabs in Israel.

No, it's all the Jews' fault, according to Tibi, Al-Sana, Barakeh and others. How intellectually "honest"; how utterly perfidious of them. It sounds to me like classic anti-Semitism, Jew-hatred and Judeopathy.

  79. Lebanese TV captures Islamic Jihad rocket misfire live, averts camera, JNS, Aug 9, 2022.

"Please, turn the camera away, turn the camera upwards," Mayadeen TV correspondent says after the rocket impacted in a Gaza neighborhood.

During a live broadcast on Aug. 7, Lebanon’s Mayadeen TV caught a Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket misfiring and coming down in a Gaza neighborhood. The correspondent can be heard telling the cameraman to avert the camera. The correspondent can be heard in the video, a translated version of which was posted by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) on Monday, stating that rockets are being launched toward the sea, “maybe towards the gas fields.”

One of the rockets can then be seen straying off course, veering away from the coastline and impacting in a populated area. A few moments later, a voice is heard instructing the cameraman, who followed the missile’s course, to “please, turn the camera away, turn the camera upwards.” The presenter then attempts to continue the broadcast, saying, "Yes, Ahmad, apparently rockets were launched towards the sea."

According to the Israeli military, during the three days of fighting between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists that began on August 5, the Gaza-based terror group launched some 1,100 rockets at Israel, 200 of which fell inside the Gaza Strip. Of the 990 that crossed into Israel, Israel’s Iron Dome air-defense system intercepted 380 that would have come down in populated areas; a success rate of 96%, the Israel Defense Forces said in a statement.

More Palestinian noncombatants were killed by misfired PIJ rockets than by Israeli strikes, according to the IDF. Thirty-five Palestinians, 11 of them non-combatants, were killed by Israeli airstrikes during “Operation Breaking Dawn,” while 15 Gaza civilians were killed by failed PIJ rockets, according to IDF figures.
  80. Islamic Jihad tried to launch drone toward Tamar gas rig - Israeli army, i24NEWS, August 09, 2022.

The unsuccessful launch of unmanned aircraft from Gaza prompted Israel to increase defensive measures

Israel's military revealed on Tuesday that Gaza's Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) was involved in a failed attempt to launch a drone toward the Tamar gas rig during this past weekend's 'Operation "Breaking Dawn."' The terrorist group's unsuccessful launch of an unmanned aircraft from Gaza prompted Israel's army to step up its efforts to protect the platform located 14 miles off the coast of Ashkelon in southern Israel.

During the 11-day conflict with Hamas in May 2021, the terrorist rulers of the Gaza Strip fired dozens of rockets toward Tamar, missing the intended target, which is protected by Israel's Iron Dome missile defense system and other defensive measures.

Fuel was removed from the rig and it was temporarily taken offline at the start of the fighting between Hamas and Israel. The move during last year's conflict with Hamas came at the order of then energy minister Yuval Steinitz’s office.

According to Israeli military estimates, the PIJ launched around 1,175 rockets from the Palestinian coastal enclave at Israel during the three days of conflict that ended late Sunday night with an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire.

About 200 failed launches landed in the Gaza Strip. Two of the failed launches resulted in the deaths of about 11 people, including seven children.

  84. [N12's journalist] Nir Dvori (Aug 8, 2022):
Summary of the "Dawn" operation: 97% success for the Iron Dome, 170 targets of the jihad were attacked, about 1000 launches towards Israel, of which about 100 fell in the territory of the Gaza Strip. According to the data in the hands of the IDF, which are not certain, 35 Palestinians were killed - of which 11 were not involved. Another 15 non-involved deaths resulted from failed shots by the Palestinians.

  87. 4 Gazan children who were injured by failed launches were brought to Israel for treatment, Digital 14, 12 Av 5782 (09/08/22).

An ambulance of the Red Crescent arrived today at the Erez crossing and transported 4 Gazan children who were injured by PIJ rockets that landed in Gaza - to a hospital in Israel for medical treatment.

Operation "Breaking Dawn" - the days after: We announce that today (Tuesday) an ambulance of the Red Crescent arrived at the Erez crossing with 4 injured Arab children from the Gaza Strip.

The children were harmed by the failed launches of the Islamic Jihad towards Israel during the operation and now, after the ceasefire - with the help of the Gaza Coordination and Liaison Directorate, which is under the coordination of the government's operations in the territories - they will receive medical treatment here in Israel. 3 of them were hospitalized at al-Maqsad Hospital in Jerusalem, 1 was hospitalized in PA territory.

As recalled, during the operation we learned of at least two failed launches that resulted in the death of those not involved. In one of them, the PIJ even tried to blame Israel by claiming that the civilians died in an attack by our forces in Jabaliya, a claim that was quickly refuted by an IDF spokesman who published documents proving that the injuries occurred as a result of failed rocket launches.

According to IDF data, during the operation about 200 rockets launched from the Gaza Strip by the Jihad with the aim of hitting Israeli civilians landed in the Gaza Strip. This is more than 20% of the launches, the number of which was about 1100 during the days of fighting.
  88. Hamas issues, rescinds sweeping regulations on journalists in GazaJNS, August 10, 2022.

Hamas issued and then withdrew sweeping restrictions on foreign journalists working in the Gaza Strip in the aftermath of this week’s conflict between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, according to the Associated Press. The restrictions included a ban on coverage about PIJ rockets falling short in Gaza and causing injuries and deaths, as well as a general rule requiring that Jerusalem be blamed for the latest escalation, according to the report.

The Foreign Press Association, which represents international media in Israel, announced that the regulations were scrapped following discussions with the terrorist group…

Sponsors would have also been required to inform Hamas of “any suspicious behavior or illogical questions” by foreign journalists, and to submit a full report of what journalists did in Gaza, in addition to links to all published works…

In one instance, a PIJ rocket misfired and caused an explosion in a residential area of Jabalya that killed numerous people, including four children. While Palestinian media initially reported that the deaths were caused by an Israeli airstrike, the IDF refuted the claim by releasing footage of the incident.

Meanwhile, during a live broadcast on Aug. 7, Lebanon’s Mayadeen TV caught a PIJ rocket malfunctioning and coming down in a Gaza neighborhood. A few moments later, a voice is heard instructing the cameraman, who followed the missile’s course, to "please, turn the camera away, turn the camera upwards."…

Where Palestinian claims are taken as fact, even when they come from terrorist organizations, Israeli claims – with evidence – are taken with skepticism... Al Jazeera blamed Israel for the death of children in Jabaliya, without mentioning that it was the result of an errant Islamic Jihad rocket...

while both CNN and BBC mentioned the Jabaliya attack within larger articles about the entire operation, both of them reported it as a claim of Israel that's disputed. The BBC article stated that Israel accused PIJ militants of accidentally causing at least some of those deaths, adding that the BBC has not been able to independently verify this claim.

Interestingly, no such disclaimer is mentioned when it comes to the death toll statistics provided by Gaza terrorist groups. Why is that Palestinian claims are taken as fact while Israeli claims that are put forth with transparency and even with evidence are cast in a negative, skeptical light?

The New York Times has cut ties with a fixer in the Gaza Strip after his Facebook posts calling Jews "the children of [sic] dogs[sic]" and expressing support for the late Nazi tyrant Adolf Hitler resurfaced.

Fady Hanona has worked with multiple major news outlets to aid their reporting on the Arab-Israeli conflict. According to screenshots preserved by Honest Reporting editor Akiva Van Koningsveld, Hanona repeatedly espoused anti-Semitic rhetoric. expressed hostility towards Israel and spoke favorably about Adolf Hitler.

"I don’t accept a Jew, Israeli or Zionist, or anyone else who speaks Hebrew. I’m with killing them wherever they are children, elderly people, and soldiers," Hanona wrote in Arabic on a Facebook post, adding: "In the end, the Jews are sons of the dogs and I am in favor of killing them and burning them like Hitler did to them. I would be extremely happy," including two smiling emojis.

In another Facebook post from August 2014, Hanona attributed a quote to the Nazi leader, writing "As Hitler said, give me a Palestinian soldier and a German weapon, and I will make Europe crawl on its fingertips."

Hanona opposed a cease-fire that was struck at the time between Israel and Hamas, urging "resistance" and further attacks upon Tel Aviv.
  97. Jacob Magid, Senior UN official loses her post after tweet condemning PIJ rocket fire at Israel, TOI, 13 Aug 2022.

Jerusalem-based Sarah Muscroft to be assigned new role, spokesman says, after her statement panning rockets that 'provoke Israeli retaliation' met strong backlash from Palestinians...

Muscroft, who headed the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, said: "Relieved to see a ceasefire agreed ending hostilities impacting both Palestinians and Israeli civilians. Such indiscriminate rocket fire of Islamic Jihad provoking Israeli retaliation is condemned. The safety of all civilians is paramount — the ceasefire must be upheld." Muscroft, who had been based in East Jerusalem, came under massive criticism from pro-Palestinian activists who said she was blaming Palestinians for the latest round of violence and was failing to hold Israel responsible.

The latest Gaza conflict began with several Israeli airstrikes against Islamic Jihad targets in response to what the army said was a concrete terror threat from a PIJ cell to fire anti-tank missiles across the border at Israeli troops or civilians. The strikes were followed by the firing of nearly 1000 rockets by PIJ as well as roughly 170 Israeli counterstrikes.
  98. Arden: The decision to oust the UN envoy, Sarah Muscroft, because she condemned rocket fire - is a disgrace and a total surrender to the threats of the Palestinians, Rotter, Aug 14, 2022.

The true face of the UN has been exposed again and there is no limit to hypocrisy.

The UN envoy, Sara Muscroft, only tweeted praising the ceasefire and condemning the rocket fire by the Islamic Jihad terrorists. It was probably too much for her bosses at the UN and she was removed from her post. Every time I think the UN and its people have hit rock bottom, they prove that you can go lower. Shocking! This time it is a complete surrender to the threats of the Palestinians and we will fight against it.

So this morning I contacted the UN Secretary General and made it clear that we will not accept such a double standard. Just two weeks ago, one of the "judges" in the commission of inquiry against Israel on behalf of the Human Rights Council, remained in his position even after expressing himself in a biased and even anti-Semitic manner. This is a disgrace and I will work so that the UN and the Secretary General understand the meaning of this despicable step.

Earlier today (Tuesday) it was reported in Gaza about an explosion for unknown reasons inside a house. According to the reports, the explosion resulted in deaths, including a child, and many injuries on the spot.
