Rafael Trujillo in 1952 Rafael Trujillo (October 24, 1891 - May 30, 1961) was the dictator of the Dominican Republic from June 16, 1930 until his assassination, after which his son Ramfis became the new dictator for half a year. Before becoming a dictator, Rafael Trujillo was a soldier, kidnapper and rapist. Trujillo was also an actor, and did a cameo role in the movie "Casablanca". Trujillo was elected president after his supporters threatened local people into voting for him. Trujillo's slogan was simple: "God and Trujillo". After Trujillo rose to power, many of his critics were murdered.
