A cryptochannel is a complete system of crypto-communications between two or more holders. A cryptochannel is analogous to a radio circuit.

It is also the basic unit for naval cryptographic communication. It includes:

• the cryptographic aids prescribed;
• the holders thereof;
• the indicators or other means of identification;
• the area or areas in which effective;
• the special purpose, if any, for which provided; and
• pertinent notes as to distribution, usage, etc.
