Maya Jayapal is a writer, columnist, and teacher from India.[1][2][3] Her daughter, Pramila Jayapal, is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.[4] She moved from Madras (Chennai) to Bangalore (Bengaluru).[5]

She graduated from Mount Carmel College in Bangalore.[2]

Her husband Jayapal Menon worked in the oil industry. The family spent time living in Jakarta, Indonesia. The family also lived in Singapore. Her elder daughter is a lawyer in Portland.[6] Since 1993, Maya Jayapal has lived in Bengaluru.[7]
