Magdalena Bay is an American synth-pop duo from Los Angeles consisting of singer-songwriter Mica Tenenbaum and producer Matthew Levin. They are signed to Luminelle Recordings[1], a label founded by Gorilla vs. Bear's Chris Cantalini. They have been noted for their informational TikTok videos on the music industry[2] and their kitschy DIY visuals.[3][4] They have released three EPs and two mixtapes, called "Mini Mixes," composed primarily of under two minute songs with accompanying homemade green screen music videos. Their debut album Mercurial World will be released on October 8th, 2021 via Luminelle.[5]

## History[edit]

Magdalena Bay was formed in 2016 while Tenenbaum and Levin were attending college separately in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Boston, Massachusetts.[6] The pair met as high school students in Miami, Florida and formed a prog rock band as part of an after-school program.[3] The name Magdalena Bay refers not to Magdalena Bay in Mexico but an administrator at Levin's former job.[4]

Prior to cancellation because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they were set to tour with Yumi Zouma and Kero Kero Bonito in 2020.[7] They will tour with George Clanton in 2021.[8]

They have cited Grimes, Chairlift and Charli XCX as influences.[4]
