Originally established as a magazine of literature and culture, The Atlantic, originally The Atlantic Monthly, has become a web and print publication containing considerable political commentary from a number of viewpoints. James Bennet is the 14th Editor.

As opposed to other commentary periodicals, it routinely carries poetry and fiction identified as such, to be distinguished from political speech.
