Adam Blease (born 8 October 1979) is an English actor known for the roles of Dirk in Coronation Street.
Blease was born in Manchester. He plays Dirk, the non-speaking employee at the Underworld knicker factory in Coronation Street.
Although Blease had appeared in Coronation Street for a decade, he came to national public notice in January 2017, when some viewers misheard Underworld colleague Fiz Brown played by Jennie McAlpine say "Thanks Dirk", as Blease handed her a pint. They thought she had said "Kirk" and feared that regular character Kirk Sutherland (played by Andy Whyment) Had been replaced by a new actor...[1] [2]
This led to fans on Twitter creating a viral hashtag #DirkNotKirk to highlight other humorous rhyming names which could be confused for each other.[3][4]
Blease's Dirk character now has a cult following with viewers carefully watching each episode to see if the silent character appears with his trademark warehouse coat, clipboard and bald head.
Blease is also a member of Manchester's "Bee Vocal Choir", a choir formed to support those suffering mental health problems. The choir is based at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall. Along with the choir Blease performed at the 2019 Royal Variety Performance alongside Emeli Sande.
