Paul Craig Roberts (April 3, 1939 in Atlanta) is an economist and syndicated columnist. He is a former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration, and is a "Father of Reaganomics." He is a prominent paleoconservative. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Virginia, and compiles a list of his prodigious writings on his website.[1]
He was a former member of the Republican Party, but is now Independent.
He has been very critical of the economic policies of the Bush Administration and also of its handling of foreign policy. He strongly opposed the 2003 invasion of Iraq. He disagrees with the idea "that the U.S. was forced into invading Iraq because of the September 11 attack on the WTC." [1] Roberts believes that the Bush Administration severely weakened America during its time in office. He has stated that the end of the "US Empire" is now inevitable.[2]
He has written several columns about the provocative attitude of the Obama Administration towards Russia, which could lead to a war in Europe, thus referring to the wars in Syria and Ukraine where both parties are involved.
By March 3, 2021, Roberts observed that Trump is a populist, but felt that a second Trump term would be able to appoint and obtain Senate confirmation of enough good people to get the job done in Washington, D.C. against the entrenched Establishment there.[2]
