The city's importance as an aviation and industrial centre is illustrated by a winged wheel. A wavy bar symbolizes the North Saskatchewan River. A sheaf symbolizes agriculture. * Supporters: In dexter, an explorer represents the city's fur-trading past. In sinister, Athena, the goddess of wisdom, represents the city's educational institutions, especially the University of Alberta. * Compartment: The supporters stand on a rendition of the river valley where many recreational activities take place. * Motto: A scroll below the arms reads "Industry – Integrity – Progress". This motto has long been used as the motto of the city and repeats the themes of the shield.[1] ## See also[edit] * Flag of Edmonton * Coat of arms of Alberta * v * t * e City of Edmonton Features| * Coat of arms * Demographics * Edmonton Journal * Flag * Notable Edmontonians * Religion * Sister cities History| * 1978 Commonwealth Games * 1983 Summer Universiade * Annexations * City Centre Airport * Fort Edmonton * Park * Heritage buildings * Hotel Macdonald * North Saskatchewan River flood of 1915 * Princess Theatre * Strathcona * List of mayors * Timeline * Tornado * Mindbender crash Geography| * Aspen parkland * Edmonton Metro Region * Downtown * Metropolitan areas * Neighbourhoods * North Saskatchewan River * Ribbon of Green * Parks * William Hawrelak Park * Whitemud Creek Economy| * Alberta's Industrial Heartland * Companies * BioWare * EPCOR Utilities * PCL Construction * Stantec * West Edmonton Mall * Tallest buildings Politics| * City Council * City Hall * Elections * Mayor * List of mayors Public services| * Federal * Fire * Hospitals * Police * Remand Centre Education| * Catholic schools * List of libraries * List of schools * List of Universities and colleges * MacEwan University * Northern Alberta Institute of Technology * Public library * Public schools * University of Alberta * alumni * faculty Culture| * K-Days * Media * Museums * Music * Sport * Theatres * Wilfred Watson Transportation and infrastructure| * Airports * Authority * International airport * Anthony Henday Drive * Bridges * Canadian Forces Base (CFB) * Pedway * Railway Station * Transit service * Light Rail * Bus routes * v * t * e Heraldry in Canada National| * Arms of Canada * Flag of Canada * Royal Standard of Canada Provincial and territorial arms| * Alberta * British Columbia * Manitoba * New Brunswick * Newfoundland and Labrador * Northwest Territories * Nova Scotia * Nunavut * Ontario * Prince Edward Island * Quebec * Saskatchewan * Yukon Municipal arms| * Calgary * Edmonton * Montreal * Ottawa * Quebec City * Toronto * Vancouver * Winnipeg * More Institutional| * Universities Canadian Heraldic Authority| | Offices| * Governor General (Flag) * Herald Chancellor * Chief Herald * Deputy Chief Herald | Heralds in ordinary, extraordinary and emeritus| * Assiniboine * Athabaska * Coppermine * Fraser * Miramichi * Saguenay * Saint-Laurent * Albion * Capilano * Cowichan * Dauphin * Niagara * Rouge * Outaouais Publication| * Public Register of Arms, Flags and Badges of Canada Related| * Royal coat of arms of the United Kingdom * Royal Heraldry Society of Canada ## References[edit] 1. ^ a b Public Register of Arms, City of Edmonton This Edmonton-related article is a stub.
