Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington is an two-time Oscar-winning actor with a "penchant for giving four-star performances in two- to three-star pictures."[1] Washington won the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2016 Golden Globe Awards.[2] Some of his more recent works include Remember the Titans and The Great Debators. He won an Oscar for the police drama Training Day. He starred in Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing as Don Pedro.

A spiritual man, Washington prayed with Will Smith after Smith angrily face-slapped Chris Rock on-stage at the 2022 Academy Awards.[3] Washington said about the incident and Will Smith:

“ [W]hen the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because you’re trying to do something right. For whatever reason, the devil got ahold of him (in) that circumstance, that night. ”

Military roles[edit]

Washington won an Academy Award[4] for his portrayal of a former slave in the Civil War drama Glory; he portrayed a navy psychiatrist who helps a troubled seaman in Antwone Fisher, as well as the executive officer aboard a navy submarine which undergoes a mutiny (Crimson Tide); and a tank commander investigating a potential medal recipient in Courage Under Fire.

“ There's a book I read called 'The Sociopath Next Door.' And -- I read something from it every day before I would go on the set. It really became my guide. When you think of a sociopath...you think of someone violent. The overwhelming majority of sociopaths aren't violent. They just have a desire to win. They just don't have a conscience -- they don't have it. The majority of them are atheists as well. So that was the book that was sort of my Bible if you will...in preparation for this part."[5] ”
