Jeremy Irons is an English film and stage actor. He was born in Cowes, England in 1948 and was educated at Sherborne School in Dorset. On leaving school he trained as an actor.
He became famous in 1981 for his role in the film The French Lieutenant's Woman, also starring Meryl Streep. In 1990 he won an Academy Award for best actor in the film Reversal of Fortune. Irons has praised the Catholic Church saying, "I love its intransigence". He has condemned abortion saying "it's evil".[1]
He is married to the Irish actress Sinead Cusack.
