In some areas, the forces of nature have exposed thousands of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park create a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms and textures that is unlike any other in the world. The entrance to Arches is located 5 miles north of Moab, in Eastern Utah along Highway 191. The park was established in 1929 and covers 82,953 acres. ## Arch Collapses[edit] Gravity and erosion have caused a couple of arch collapses. Landscape Arch fell in 1991. The Wall Arch collapsed in August 2008.[3] [4] ## References[edit] 1. ↑ NPS Listing of Acreage 9/30/2008 2. ↑ NPS Reports -> Ranking Report -> 2007 3. ↑ Wall Arch Collapses, National Park Service, August 8, 2008 4. ↑ Famous Stone Arch Collapses in Utah Park, Associated Press, Fox News Channel, August 10, 2008 ## Sources[edit] * Official Website * NPS Visitor Guide * Student Guide * Virtual Tour of Arches National Park * The New American Desk Encyclopedia, Penguin Group, 1989 v • d • e National Parks of the United States Acadia · Arches · Arctic · Badlands · Bent's Old Fort · Big Bend · Biscayne · Black Canyon of the Gunnison · Bryce Canyon · Canyonlands · Capitol Reef · Carlsbad Caverns · Channel Islands · Central · Congaree · Crater Lake · Cuyahoga Valley · Death Valley · Denali · Dry Tortugas · Everglades · Ford's Theatre · Fort Vancouver · Gates of the Arctic · Glacier · Glacier Bay · Grand Canyon · Grand Teton · Great Basin · Great Sand Dunes · Great Smoky Mountains · Guadalupe Mountains · Haleakala · Hawaii Volcanoes · Horseshoe Bend · Hot Springs · Isle Royale · Joshua Tree · Katmai · Kenai Fjords · Kings Canyon · Kobuk Valley · Lake Clark · Lassen Volcanic · Mammoth Cave · Mesa Verde · Mojave · Mount Rainier · North Cascades · Olympic · Oregon Caves · Petrified Forest · Redwood · Rocky Mountain · Saguaro · Sequoia · Shenandoah · Theodore Roosevelt · Virgin Islands · Voyageurs · White Sands · Wind Cave · Wolf Trap · Wrangell-St. Elias · Yellowstone · Yosemite · Zion
