Excerpt: "Government spending is a negative stimulus to the economy. The best stimulus is to leave more money in the economy when things are tight. It makes no sense to take it out and put it back in where some politician wants to spend it. ...The challenge is to broaden the tax base to produce more revenue, as opposed to looking for more ways to pick the taxpayers' pockets."

• Education

Excerpt: "We need more options to meet the needs of our children than the 'one size fits all' system we now have. Not only should the options be developed, the money should follow the child to where they are best served; all the money, not just what is spent in the classroom. School districts should not have a monopoly on spending the administrative portion of the education budget. They are too top heavy already. More of the education budget needs to be spent in the classroom."

Alvey ran in the 2012 election for Washington House of Representatives, District 32-Position 2. Alvey was defeated by incumbent Ruth Kagi and Robert Reedy in the August 7 blanket primary election. They face each other in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.^[2][3]
