In 1973 Edison Community College formed in Piqua, Ohio. The institution's purpose was to provide both technical training and two-year Associates degrees to residents of Darke County, Miami County, and Shelby County. Originally, Edison Community College held classes in rented facilities, but the college eventually established its own campus in Piqua. Initially, 309 students enrolled at Edison Community College, and by 1994, more than three thousand students attended the institution. In 2005, Edison Community College offered classes at its main campus in Piqua as well as at satellite campuses at Greenville, Ohio, and at Tipp City, Ohio.
