Simran A. Singh is an American entertainment attorney and film and television producer. He is the founder and Managing Partner of Singh, Singh & Trauben, LLP, a a law firm based in Beverly Hills, California.[1][2]
Singh is a graduate of The College of William & Mary and The University of Miami School of Law. He started his career as an attorney at Universal Music Group and now represents Grammy Award and Billboard Music Award winning music artists including Missy Elliott, the estate of Selena, Daddy Yankee, Ozuna (singer)|Ozuna, Natti Natasha, and Luny Tunes, among others.[3][4][5][6][7]
In 2015, Singh represented co-director of 2016: Obama's America, John Sullivan, in a lawsuit against Pure Flix Entertainment seeking at least $10 million in damages and alleging that the faith-based hit motion picture God's Not Dead (film)|God's Not Dead was based on a "faith-based Dead Poets Society" concept called Proof that was created by his clients.[8]
In 2017, Singh represented Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla in a lawsuit against her widow, Chris Pérez, demanding that Perez and Endemol Shine North America stop production of a television series based on an unauthorized book written by Perez entitled To Selena, with Love.[9] He also represented former NFL running back, Darren McFadden, in a lawsuit against his former financial advisor claiming the ex-financial planner misappropriated and mishandled $15 million.[10][11]
In 2018, Singh was announced as a producer of music-driven family drama inspired by the legacy of Selena Quintanilla with a put pilot commitment from American Broadcasting Company|ABC.[12] He was also credited as an executive producer of Selena: The Series, scheduled to be released on December 4, 2020 on Netflix.[13][14]
Singh was named as a Billboard (magazine)|Billboard Top Music Lawyer in 2019 and 2020.[15][16]
In 2019, he helped broker a collaboration between Daddy Yankee and Katy Perry for a remix of the Daddy Yankee multi platinum and 7 time Billboard-winning song, Con Calma.[17] He also represented Ozuna (singer)|Ozuna in a global deal with Sony Music Entertainment and his casting in Fast & Furious 9.[18][19] Singh represented Anuel AA in a worldwide publishing deal with Kobalt Music Group|Kobalt Music.[20]
In 2020, he represented Ozuna (singer)|Ozuna in a renewal of a publishing deal with Kobalt Music Group|Kobalt Music.[21] He also represented Daddy Yankee in a multi million dollar agreement with Universal Music Group, which is the richest music deal ever in Latin music.[22][23]
