Elizabeth Edwards (July 3, 1949 – December 7, 2010) was the wife of former U.S. Senator and Democratic Vice Presidential nominee John Edwards, until she died of breast cancer on December 7, 2010.[1] Elizabeth Edwards was a political activist on behalf of her husband who was pursuing the The 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination.
In the context of her husband's unsuccessful campaign for president, Edwards confronted social commentator Ann Coulter alleging Coulter is asking young people to "participate in a dialogue that's based on hatefulness and ugliness," and declaring "we can't have a debate about issues if you're using this kind of language."
Edwards, in accepting the "Rage for Justice Award" on June 8, 2007 from the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, stated,
