The Battle of the Aegates Islands in 241 B.C. was the last battle between the forces of Rome and the forces of Carthage in the First Punic War. It took place at sea. The Romans had not threatened in this area since their disastrous defeat at the Battle of Drepanum eight years earlier, but had since rebuilt their fleet and had 200 vessels in the waters of Sicily.
The Carthaginians with a force of 200 ships under Hanno went to face the Romans under Catulus. Catulus won a complete victory with 70 Carthaginian ships being captured and 50 more sunk. Carthage had lost the war.
